Who we are and what we do

SIMHNE

The Forum intends to further the recommendations of the conference “Making Space for Spirituality” in June 2008 by pursuing issues relating to:

  • Education and Training
  • Research and Development
  • Improving clinical practice… all supported by
  • Information and Communication

Meetings of the Forum take place at least three times a year in a centrally accessible location.   A Steering Group of members (see below) representing different aspects of the region plans Forum meetings and carries out other tasks delegated to it by the Forum.   Chairing meetings is by rotation. The Forum is administered via Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust’s Chaplaincy Centre and supported by the North East Mental Health Development Unit.

The Forum membership includes mental health service users, carers, workers, faith community leaders and representatives.  We seek to learn from each other, to develop working relationships and to share good practice in spirituality and mental health care. We intend to conduct our meetings in the spirit of gentle curiosity with courage and compassion.
